Remembrance Glass~Ashes in Glass

I have lost many beloved people and pets but the death of my father in 2022 prompted me to create my Remembrance Glass pieces. Offering this service has added meaning to my glass practice and I’m privileged to work with families, creating eternal memories of their loved relatives and fur friends.

I offer a bespoke service with a choice of products available including jewellery, sculpture, touch stones and posy vases. At present, I’m only offering this service from my studio in Perth. I prefer to work with a client personally, enabling privacy via a booked appointment where we can discuss requirements.

A small selection of the products I offer are pictured below. Read on for the answers to some common questions.

• How much ash is needed?

  Just a small amount of about 1/4 teaspoon is required for a Remembrance Glass piece.

• I don’t really want to touch the ashes myself. Can you help?

  Absolutely! I completely understand the emotional difficulty involved. You can bring all of the ashes to my studio and I will remove what is required for you.

• Will I see the ash in the finished piece?

  That is completely up to you and depends on the glass used. My normal process encases the ash in clear glass so it can still be seen, but opaque glass can be used and only you will know that your piece contains ash.

• Is it only ash that can be used in a Remembrance Glass piece?

  I can encapsulate fur or hair in a blown glass piece, but it can’t be melted into the glass in the same way as ash. Hollow pieces can be made in transparent or opaque glass depending on whether or not you wish to see the hair/fur.

• What happens if you have leftover ash?

  Any unused ash will be returned to you when you collect your piece/s.
